Who doesn’t love Black Friday? Well, I wouldn’t say I love it… but the past few years we have been able to get exactly what we set out to get, so I certainly LOVE that.
This year, I actually really liked what Target did. They opened at midnight, so we just stayed up late and hit that sale (Well, we did hit Wal-mart first, but nothing jumped out at us). We got to Target about 12:05 and went to the back of the line. That was actually fine with me, until some women in front of us started smoking.
Now, I say live and let live. You want to smoke, be my guest. I won’t judge you for it, BUT can you show SOME common courtesy in certain situations. You were in line with a HUGE group of people, 99.99% of them were NOT smoking (the few that did light up went and stood in the parking lot; I mean except these buttheads). Do you really need to light up and subject all of us to that?
HELL NO, you don’t! And I admit, I opened my mouth.
“You know, not all of us want lung cancer.” I said, certainly loud enough for them to hear.
One delightful young lady turned around and informed me that I did not want to go there.
“What?” I looked at Roy in confusion, “Umm… I already went there.”
Yes, at this point I was pissed. And yes, I could and probably should have handled that better. But since she turned around and told me that there were no babies in the immediate vicinity, well, she apparently did not see a problem with her cigarette smoke.
I mean with that logic, how could I argue? Again, you want to smoke, not my business. And in certain situations, we expect to be around it (a bar, a nightclub, a cigarette store, the local high school [Ok, that one was a joke… sort of]), but standing in line to get in a store? Come on… people with asthma have every right to get those same deals as you do. People WITH children (though why you want to bring them out in that mess… NOT ME!) also have that right, people that have issues with smoke, people with hair that do not want to smell like smoke all day, etc., etc… all I’m saying is, use some common courtesy.
Anyways, we finally made it to the front of the line, and once we got in, I SOOO wanted to ram smoking lady in the butt with my hard won cart. (GOT the last regular cart… OH YEAH!) But alas, I realized that was a childish reaction, and I didn’t see her anyways.
So, we made our way into the store, and I immediately look to see what sweaters are on sale.
“Chris!” Roy is beckoning me over to him, “Come on, we can come back to this later.”
“Fine, Fine,” I say hurrying over to the cart, “I already found what I wanted.”
A lovely wrap sweater… course it was for me, so that kind of defeated the purpose of me going out in the middle of the night.
And then, he got sidetracked looking at a TV.
“Honey, we don’t need a TV.”
“I know, maybe Corey…”
“I am not spending 400 on a TV. He has one, he can buy it himself.” Sorry, that is a bit more than I spend per child at Christmas, maybe his birthday.
“No, I meant Dad.” Roy corrected himself. Corey was hoping for a smaller TV, but Roy’s dad wanted a decent sized one. “He might like this one, and they only have two left.”
True, so, I let him do his thing (his parents had just made it into the store, so he didn’t have to do much at that point), and I went off in search of the Xbox Kinnect. Roy caught up with me, and we got sidetracked by the Kindle Fire’s.
“You know you want one.” He looked at me.
I did. I really did. I have an old Kindle that I absolutely love, but I really wanted this new one. All the games, the ability to surf the web, the color. And the price! I love Roy’s iPad, but it was pricey. And beyond my needs. I wanted something simple.
An employee came over to ask if we needed help.
“Yes, can we get the Kindle Fire?” Roy asked her.
Usually, for something like this, he hesitates. Since it is for me, he wants me to be sure that I want it, but this time… he just knew me better than I knew myself. She said, sure, but that we would have to stand in the electronics line, which was winding around the electronics department into men’s clothing. But, since she put it up by the register on hold for us, I knew I would get up there and get my purchase.
“I’ll go stand in line. Can you look at toys?” I asked Roy.
“Yeah. What am I looking for?” He asked me.
“Hayden wants Legos. And well, I don’t know…” I guess anything that caught our eyes.
Off he went in search of Legos and ‘well, I don’t know…’, and I got in line.
Before I knew it, my inlaws and my niece were done wandering around and came to keep me company. The line moved SOOOOO slowly, but it moved. When I turned the corner, Roy came up to me with an empty cart.
“Nothing?” I asked him.
“Yeah, none of the Legos are on sale. And I couldn’t find the Leap Pad for Dean.”
“Hmm… ok, your turn.” He said and took my place in line, and I went to see what I could find.
OHH… The Xbox kinnect! They have it! I grabbed one of the last three that were sitting out. The games were pretty empty, but I grabbed some Spongebob surfing thing, and the Kinectanimals (I don’t know if that’s what it is called, something about animals and panda bears.)
“Ohh… you got one too!” As I ran up to the cart with my find, I saw Roy holding one too.
“No, mom found it.”
“Oh, cool! Are you guys getting one too?” I asked.
My mother in law remembered me saying I wanted to get one for the boys, so she grabbed one for us not knowing if we had found it. I took my place in line, and he went out to put the extra Kinect up and check out the games.
I spent more time in line, hanging out with my niece and my father in law, we crept forward. Eventually, my in-laws, gave up, and we parted ways. Roy and I stood in line for about 30 more minutes, but eventually it was our turn, and I got my Kindle Fire.
We paid for it and grabbed a few more things. We went to pay for the rest of our things, and though the line extended the entire length of the store, it moved very quickly. We paid for our purchases, no problem. Got great deals. And decided to go to IHOP.
It was nice. Late, but nice. It reminded me of when we were dating. We would go out to the club, do some dancing, and then go to Denny’s or somewhere for a late night meal. It was nice. We hung out and shared some pancakes and an omelet. And when we finally hit the sack, it was 3:45 AM. WAY past my bedtime!
I woke up at 8:15 to little faces wide awake.
“Time to get up, Mama?” It was a question, but Dean was already wide awake.
“Ok, sure.” I said, sitting up and rubbing my eyes. I saw my Kindle Fire out of the corner of my eye. Ohh, yeah… time to get up!
I turned it on and giggled when it booted right up. Set up was a breeze. How cool am I?!
“What is that, Mama?” Dean cuddled up next to me.
I showed him, and he oohed and aahed over the bright colors.
“Ohh… Mom, that is neat!” Hayden came over and sat next to us.
“I know, right?” I smiled at him, “Daddy bought me a new Kindle.”
“Really?!” Hayden was excited, “Can I have your old one?”
I told him we would see. My excited chatter woke up my sleepy husband, who helped me sync things up. We went downstairs, had breakfast, and around noon, we left the house to meet Roy’s parents for lunch.
And when we got home, I realized, I didn’t get many presents! We gave the boys the Kinect early, and we all had a blast playing it last night. Dean is so cute, jumping around and trying to pop the bubbles on the game.
Oh, well… I still have a month to go.
Crap, I better get moving!
