MTV is turning 30 this year!  Obviously, I am showing my age here, as I remember it’s debut!  I was actually at my babysitter’s house when I saw the first video MTV ever played.  Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles.  It was also my first introduction to the AMAZING Pat Benatar.  Sure, I had heard her music (my dad was a fan), but seeing her… WOW!  To this day, she still rocks it.

I remember seeing the video for Thriller.  My parents didn’t get cable right away, and after we did, my mom would let me get up, and if I ate my breakfast and got dressed for school on time, she would let me watch a bit of MTV.  Thriller was actually the first video I saw on MTV in my own house.  And, boy, was it amazing!  Now we have it on DVD, and all the boys love it.  The make-up, the dancing… it holds up well in my book.  One of my favorite videos from that time was The Warrior by Scandal.  Patty Smyth, like Pat Benatar, was so cool to a 9 year old girl.  She was strong, and talented, and she had a really cool kimono.

Who can forget Madonna’s Like a Virgin performance on the 1984 VMA’s.  

“Why is she rolling around like that?  And what is she wearing?” My dad was confused.

“I don’t know if Chris needs to watch this?” That was my mom.

Boy, Madonna was so cool!  Borderline and Lucky Star were more my style, and I wore my ‘jelly bracelets’ just like her.  All the way up my arm.  But my mom drew the line at multiple ear piercings.

The Real World, the first season, was ground breaking.  Seven kids thrown together and expected to live together and make it work?  What a crazy idea?

And I still watch MTV daily to this day.  Well, let me rephrase that - I watch MTV2 or Fuse.  I love music - all kinds of music.  And I love watching the videos, but, of course, MTV doesn’t seem to remember that it is MUSIC Television.
