There is something to be said for being able to count on those around you. Your family, your friends, your neighbors.
It’s a nice feeling, knowing if you needed someone to lean on you have people you can call. It gives you peace of mind, I suppose it helps you sleep at night.
But it’s also nice, knowing that you are the type of person your friends can count on. It feels good to know that someone thinks of you when they need help, which I suppose is a rather selfish feeling.
Our friends were having a party this Saturday, something we had all been looking forward to, but getting ready for 20-30 people is hard work. Cleaning, planning, food preparation-it’s tough, and can be overwhelming.
Roy and I offered our services, if they needed help setting up. And when they called around 2, it was nice to know they thought of us when they needed help.
There have been times in the past, when Roy and I spoke of needing more friends. We lead such insular lives-depending on each other, preferring the company of one another, and yet we knew we needed friends. Someone to vent to about the other one, someone to remind us that we are still capable of fun, that we are still exiciting, and interesting and not just mom and dad.
But what’s even nicer, is knowing those people feel the same way about you. It feels good to know if your friends needs a laugh, or some reassurance, you might be one of the people they think of. It feels good knowing that people feel they can count no you.
