As you can see, there was no question of the day yesterday, but I had a good reason! A few days before the Christmas break, R and I made the tough decision to put our little Dachshund, Missy, to sleep. She was an older dog and had a good life, but she was having serious health issues and it got to the point where medication would just be to help her deal with the pain, but would not have added anything to her quality of life. When I brought her in the Vet said he did not believe she could handle surgery to correct her back, and that putting her to sleep would be the kindest thing we could do. I think in my heart I knew that before I even took her in, but either way it was a hard thing to do. The staff at our local vet’s office was great! They explained everything to me, told me what to expect and once they vet had given her the medication, they gave me a few moments to compose myself. They even sent us a nice card expressing their sadness over our loss.
Even before Missy got sick R and I toyed with the idea of getting a puppy. We saw a bulldog at a pet store R buys his aquarium salt at and just thought it was the cutest thing. But in the end, we settled on a pug puppy. We poured over countless websites, but finally took the plunge and visited a few places yesterday, and honestly the pictures just don’t do them justice. They are so cute and sweet! We went to a farm, about an hour from our house, and there were three little pups there. One was black, which H just adored, but I had my heart set on a Fawn one. The little boy was a very light color with just the cutest face. The conditions, while not horrible, were not ideal in my opinion, and this little guy (and pugs faces almost look sad anyways) just looked at me with these big eyes and seemed to beg me to take him home. He wanted to explore, but if you picked him up he just wanted to cuddle!
So….I didn’t post yesterday, cause R let me adopt my little guy! I had a name in mind, and once in the car on the way home we tossed it around, when R threw out a name that just grabbed me….Shinobi. I think the kids want to call him Shin, but he’s a Shinobi.
Not sure if our other dog knows what to make of him, but I think they will be just fine!
