Life with Boys
Follow me! You know you want to.

Being a mother, I could cop out and say the birth of my children, and while each one of those is a dear memory, I didn’t want to put a standard answer here.  I also, have an amazing husband, and marrying him was one of the best days of my life! So, I guess these memories would be my numbers 7-9 as far as tops go!

1) The day R proposed to me-I was never one of those girls that had my wedding planned.  I didn’t know what the perfect dress would look like, what my ring should look life, etc.  It was Mother’s Day of 1999….a few days before that R and I took A to the mall.  He was so little…just a few months old, but growing like a weed.  For months we looked in jewelry stores, trying on rings, etc, and that day was no different.  I found a beautiful ring-a little over half a caret, very god cut and clarity and a gorgeous, unique platinum setting, but it wasn’t cheap…we looked a bit more, “R” even asked if I was sure I didn’t want a stone that was a bit bigger, but eventually we left the store.  Across the mall was The Children’s Place, and I told “R” I wanted to run in and get some new PJ’s and socks for “A”.  He said he would just wait outside with the baby.  That was fine with me because the store was crowded and small, and his stroller would be hard to navigate in the store.  I did my thing, probably took a bit longer than necessary, but it worked for “R” that day.  We finished doing our thing…he probably took us out to lunch, we did some more shopping and went home.  That night, I ran to the bathroom, and when I came out I found a note asking me to meet him on the porch swing.  He told me to just come out, that his mom had “A” and he had something for me.  I sat on the swing, and he told me how he felt about me, the way I made him feel, how he saw our life together, then he pulled out a certificate for a star.  He had bought and names a star after me.  At that point I already had tears in my eyes.  My husband isn’t the most vocal man, but I could tell that he took some time to think about all this, but he spoke from his heart, and just let it all hang out there.  After a moment he got down on one knee and pulled out a jewelry box, opening it I saw the beautiful , platinum ring I had loved in the store.  I said yes.  It’s been over 10 years since our wedding, and occasionally he has asked if I wanted a bigger ring.  We were young and money was tight then, we have more to spend now, and I think he wants to make me happy.  We even got so far as to pick out a stone, setting and get a price in a store for a new one.  But, I will stand at the jewelry counter and remember that day, and I can’t part with this ring.  Maybe one day, I will ask for a pendant or something with a bigger stone, but this ring is a part of our lives and simply can’t be replaced.

2) Our trip to Disney World!-LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Disney World.  Hell, I love all things Disney…Lilo and Stitch is my favorite cartoon even now!  I buy the younger boys Disney Pj’s every season. I have little collections all over the house, but my favorite is probably my Disney snow globes.  I am hoping to convince “R” to invest a couple hundred dollars in a print of Tinkerbell…I Love Disney!  In 2003, we saved up some money and took the three older boys to Disney World for a week.  It was AWESOME! Though I think looking back I might have overplanned a bit, but I didn’t want to miss certain things.  We bought a travel book and picked out some restaurants we wanted to try-the kids loved the Sci-Fi cafe.  We did a character breakfast and a character dinner.  “R” and I got a sitter and ran around Pleasure Island for a few hours.  We saw the parades and the light shows, took ALL three of the boys on the Tower of Terror, and just had a blast.  I can’t wait to take the rest of the kids back there, hopefully one day soon!

3) D’s first Christmas-I won’t necessarily say it was because it was his first Christmas, but because our family was complete and all of us were together.  The boys had fun helping D open his presents, they opened theirs.  R and I exchanged little gifts with each other, etc.  After all of that was over, about five minutes in all….R and the boys put the toys together, and cleaned up some of the wrapping paper, while I made our big Holiday Breakfast.  After that we just hung out and relaxed a little bit… then it was time to make the dinner!  It was just a fun day with the whole family.

R just came by and saw my question of the day and sarcastically asked me if I could make my questions any harder… so I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
