I always have good intentions when it comes to my blogging. I mean, we can’t be the only family out there with six kids! My husband and I have five boys that live with us, and I have a stepdaughter that comes to visit as often as she can. Six kids, a dog (more on that in a bit), a big fish tank, a lizard….are we alone in this world? When you have a big family EVERYTHING requires a little more effort. Most recipes are for four servings, but even doubling that isn’t enough when you have two teenage boys in the house. Most hotel rooms sleep four…maybe five or six, but we have eight. A minivan will fit us all….but not if we have luggage, or heaven forbid do our monthly Costco run. But, you learn to adjust, you learn get it all done, and if some things fall by the wayside (like dusting) you live with it and get to it when you can.
And like anyone, my family sets ‘resolutions.’ But let’s be honest, do most people follow thru, not according to my Glamour magazine, and I am pretty sure Oprah did her own study on this…and we all know that what Oprah says is law! So, I say “Screw the resolutions!’ keep on doing what works for you, and try to change what doesn’t!
What does work for me is loving my husband and my kids as much as I do. I am a stay at home mom, and I don’t mind that I stopped working, though I did love my job, to be there for my kids. I missed enough dinners and homework questions…so for now…being a SAHM works for me.
What isn’t working is LOOKING like a SAHM! I don’t want to look good for having five kids, I just want to look good dammit! So, we have decided to have our almost 11 year old try kickboxing, and I vow to give that a shot and see if it works for me, cause lord knows ‘cardio-funk’ sure doesn’t.
What is working for me is trying to budget to get everything paid as best as I can. But what isn’t working is having so little savings. Yes, we like nice things and as hard as my husband works we should be able to have some nice things, but we dont’ need to eat out three times a week. Instead, we should be trying to save a bit more.
And with five/six kids..just depends on the day of the week…I understand that my house will often be a mess, what isn’t working is letting it be a mess and then when I see my entire family sitting amongst said mess yelling at them for not picking up! I will do my best to stay on top of things, and hopefully they will follow my example…if not, THEN I will yell at them!
But most importantly, I want this to be a family blog. There are sites that ask a “Question of the day.” Leaving us to ponder and answer as we see fit. But in my family, EVERYONE has something to say. Some more than others… so I want a place where we ALL answer a question of the day, everyday (or close to it) for at least a year. Today’s question of the day:
#1. WHERE DO YOU VOW TO GO MORE OFTEN THIS YEAR?
(inspired by plinky)
My Answer:Oh, I am sure many people will say the gym, some will say they vow to go on ‘more dates’ with their spouse. Me, I vow to enter my bathroom with cleaning supplies more. Now, before you say “EEEEWWW” If my bathtub needs it, I clean it, same with my toilet…but my vanity is a mess. My mirror is not as shiny as it should be…and I have lived here for six years, and I am pretty sure I have never climbed up on the vanity and dusted the light fixtures. Now, let me track down everyone else and make them answer…….
