Life with Boys
Follow me! You know you want to.

My husband is a patient man..I mean for the most part.  Every few months I fixate on something, and I just WANT it.  I turned 35 this year, and I wanted a new purse.  The past few purses I have bought were Vera Bradley.  Nothing wrong with them…cute styles, great colors, but they don’t last because they are fabric.  So this year I wanted something nice…leather, soft as my baby’s butt, sexy color.  For months (this desire started in January or so) I would drool over the purses in Coach, Dooney and Bourke, Botkier, etc.  And then one day, a few weeks before my birthday as we were driving home…”R” asked if I wanted to go to the mall.  I made up some excuse about how I wasn’t dressed right, but he took me anyways…and there I saw it!  (This is now my new FAVORITE purse, and I will ONLY look at purses from this store now) It was a burnt orange, and so soft..I mean I would literally wear this purses as underwear if that was at all possible.  Roomy enough for all my stuff, but not so big that it looks like I am carrying around luggage.  Michael Kors…you are awesome.  “R” saw it…he saw that look in my eye, and he KNEW how much I wanted that bag, but I told him to let’s look around…cause I’[ll be honest…it was pricey.  My husband works hard for his money, once in awhile he earns some extra money, and he is always more than willing to spend it on me or the boys..but this purse was pricey.  So, we went to Coach..I found a purse I liked, didn’t love it…they didn’t have it..and I was ok with that.  Well, the boys were hungry, so we went to eat.  “R” came right out and asked me…”Do you like that Michael Kors purse?” I tried to downplay it, but he must have seen something in my eyes, I said of course, it was beautiful.  He asked me if I would use it, again i tried to downplay my desire for this bag.  But I turn my back and he is gone.  I knew him..I knew what he went to do.  As much as he might drive me nuts, I know he gets a kick out of doing something nice for me.  And ten minutes later in he walked with my bag…the most perfect bag ever.  I thanked him, and tried to hide my happiness….but secretly, at home…I took that purse out of it’s lovely protective bag and just looked at it.  It was easily the prettist purse I had ever owned. And two months later, I love it even more.  Unfortunately, and I know he would laugh about this, he has ruined any other brand of purse for me….I am already dreaming of my fall Michael Kors purse.

Moving on….My other obsession..magazine.  “R” is tolerant of this one as well…though less so than my desire for a new purse.  I suppose that is because I only want a new purse a few times a year, maybe less…magazine..every week.  I read them all…Redbook (probably my favorite), Southern Living, REal Simple, Family Circle, Woman’s Day, Instyle…occasionally I will read People, Cooking magazines, I even read “R“‘s men’s magazines.  LOVE THEM…devour them.  I clip out pages of crafts to try, recipes to make, clothes I want to try to find, makeup to use, shampoo that looks cool.

But I will also rail at my favorite magazines when the write something silly.  Let’s take Instyle for this month.  The lovely Jennifer Garner is on the cover…nice article about her.  And then we have “6 Reasons to get Excited about Jeans.”  Now, I don’t work outside the home, so I love a good pair of jeans.  My favorite pair at the moment is from Eddie Bauer’s.  Broken in, the denim is soft and just a bit faded…and it is starting to wear out.  Ok, I will say it…near the crotch…at the knees, the cuffs.  So, I am totally bummed, as EB has discontinued this style, but low and behold I pick up instyle and find out…distressed is in again!  And here i thought my jeans were just old and raggedy!  No, in reality they are now the height of fashion!  AWESOME!  So I turn the page…polished jeans are in…nice!  Cause my second favorite pair is a pair of Trouser Jeans I bought from the Gap.  They fit perfectly, and look a tad nicer than your usual pair of jeans.  Stitchless jeans are also cool, but they sound weird..and expensive, so…no thanks.  Next page, Rock and Roll jeans..ok, but I don’t see myself wearing snake skin printed jeans to the PTO meeting, and then we have acid wash.  Umm..these weren’t flattering 20 years ago, so whose bright idea was it to bring them back?  Seriously…WHY?  I would rather read Perez Hilton’s crappy book then subject my behind to these nasty looking things.  Shame, Shame on Instyle (a usually wonderful and right on mag when it comes to fashion) for pretending that these jeans are anything but fugly.

Tomorrow…subjecting my family to my culinary experiments, and 48 best kept beauty secrets.
