The New Year's Crowd
This might be an ongoing thing…
Think of the New Year’s Resolution Crowd at the gym this way… money needs to come from somewhere. If you want new equipment, new classes, upgraded cardio machines, etc., new members is one way to help accomplish that. Or they could always raise your dues every few months to pay them.
Perhaps, because I stay at home with my boys, it is easier...

An Open Letter to the Physically Fit
To Whom It May Concern:
Let me preface this letter by saying I decided to write this in response to some of the rather immature comments made by an old friend. This old friend is my age, but sadly his ego seems to have reached maturity in high school. So let’s begin.
When Roy and I decided to get back into shape over a year ago, we were lucky. We are both former athletes, and though we...

Competitive Edge
I just read a very sweet post about stress and marriage.
And, yes, for the most part we are all in this together. Roy and I just had a ‘talk’ with our 13 year old about his grades. We were a united front.
I was sitting at my desk crying because I’m so frustrated, and Roy walks over to me with a flashlight on his head.
“Hey, Chris?!” He asks me adjusting his...

Boys VS. Girls
When I was in ninth grade, we lived in Okinawa, Japan. The high school had an amazing 50 meter pool. For many years, I practiced with the swim team there. I honed my strokes. I cried. I swam in my first meet at that pool. And during PE class, we always had swim class. One Friday the gym teacher thought he would be cute. One 50 meter race. One boy versus one girl. If the girls won, we got free...

Mommy!
Okay, this is kind of gross, BUT… if Dean is particularly stuffy, he MIGHT ask me to help him with his boogies.
He is only 4, and while he understands the concept of blowing his nose, he doesn’t usually blow it hard enough for it to do any good. So yesterday I wasn’t all that surprised when he came to me.
But let’s back up a bit… About five minutes before he walked...

Celebrities and Weight
I just want to say this… I struggled with the pregnancy weight for years. I was a size 4 when I got pregnant with Corey at 19. I lost some of the weight after he was born, but not all of it. Joey was my largest baby, and after he was born, I was a size 14. I hated it, but, at the same time, I was going through a rough patch in my life, and I let other things take priority.
I lost a lot...

The Rules of Inheritance
I love to read, but I tend to stick with a few genres that I really enjoy - thrillers, mysteries, the occasional horror, romances if I want a light read, and, of course, Dr. Seuss. But this year, I decided to branch out; to try different types of books, stories, and memoirs.
When I was given the chance to read The Rules of Inheritance by Claire Bidwell Smith, I jumped at the chance. This fit...

My New Running Buddy And Roy's Door Story
Roy has been busy with our door. What door you ask? Did I never tell this story?
It’s the end of June 2011, and we are trying to get things in order, so we can leave for our much awaited (and saved for) vacation. I walk over to stand in front of the sliding glass door in the kitchen, so I could tell Addi to do something.
CRACK!
Addi and I ducked. It sounded like a gunshot.

A Parent's Fear *SPOILERS*
Glee has been hitting it out of the park for me lately. I know not everyone is a fan, but I love music. I love the idea of a show about kids standing tall and believing in themselves. And Glee has been showcasing that lately.
But last night’s episode really hit home. Roy hasn’t seen it, though I am sure we will talk about it. Corey hasn’t seen the whole episode, but what he...

Speak Up!
My mom and I didn’t always get along, but no matter what we were going through one thing that always stuck was her telling me to speak up! If someone was being nasty, insulting, etc… SAY SOMETHING! Staying quiet has the ability to cause more damage, it might take time, but ignoring a situation will eat away at its foundation, and often that is a problem that can’t ever be...

You Are SOOOO Selfish!
I know I’ve said this to Roy on more than one occasion. In the past few weeks, I might not have said it, but I’ve certainly thought it!
Roy loves his new car. I get it. It’s his baby. I’m not sure if he has always wanted a car like this, but once we bought it, I think he realized it’s a bit of a dream for him. It’s certainly the nicest car we’ve...

Dean's First Test
I think I’ve been a bit selfish with Dean. He’s my baby, my youngest, and I decided not to send him to PK-3 this year. We do play games at home that help with counting and colors. They teach him to take turns and even be a gracious winner and loser. When we go to the store, we count items as we put them in the cart, etc. Even some of this little shows teach him more than Roy and I...

Just Like Your Mama!
What do you consider High Maintenance?
I admit to stereotyping a bit here. When I hear the term “high maintenance” applied to a person, I think of a woman. One that needs to have her hair done every 4 weeks, so the roots don’t grow in. She needs to wax every four weeks, or she’s not getting “nekid” in front of anyone! She utilizes the personal shopper...

Mommy, I gots Hiccups!
Dean is not feeling so hot right now. I don’t think it is anything serious, just a little cold, but he is coughing and has a stuffy nose. He is still enjoying his breakfast, his Power Rangers, and playing with Nobi (our pug), but he is a bit under the weather.
Last night, Roy and I went to the high school and enjoyed a lovely six course tasting dinner prepared by the Culinary Students....

It's in the Eyes
My husband has beautiful eyes. No matter his mood, they are lovely. A sort of greenish blue, that up until this past summer I would say don’t look like any beach I’ve been too, but they are Caribbean Blue.
When he smiles or laughs, he gets these wonderful laugh lines around them. His whole face softens and lights up when he really laughs. It’s wonderful to hear, and it...

Valentine's Day
As I mentioned a few days ago, I’m not really a V-Day person. I think it’s a manufactured holiday in which florists and restaurants feel justified in jacking up their prices.
But each of the boys did enjoy buying the little cards for their classmates, so we always do that. Though, at this point Hayden is the only one that still does it.
We went to Walmart on Saturday, and Hayden...

Buy Me Something!
I am not a big Valentine’s Day person. I consider myself lucky in that I feel the love from my husband every day.
No, he doesn’t always buy me little gifts. On the other hand, I don’t want them. If there is something I really want or need, I can get it. I want the little things.
I want him to reach over when we are in bed and rub the back of my neck.
I want him to tell the...

Koolaid Mustache: Proud of her! →
digidad:
Christina and I woke up bright and early yesterday, poked our heads outside, and rethought our plans for the day. The weather was cold… and dreary. The forecast called for a good bit of snow and some slush throughout the day. But we pushed on. We hopped into our gear and into the car. Then we…

Well, We Did It!
We ran out first 5K! And I did better than I expected. Didn’t win or anything, but I certainly didn’t come in last.
I signed Roy and I up for the Amnesty International Couples 5K. Roy promised me he would run with me, though I told him he didn’t need to, he was more than welcome to go on ahead, as they add the two times together in the end for an ‘official time.’

I Know You
My shows are pulling out all the stops for Valentine’s Day. Flowers, chocolate, divorce, proposals, heartache, sex… you name it. And I’m still a sucker for Grey’s Anatomy. One of my favorite couples is Dr. Miranda Bailey and Dr. Ben Warren. I like that he just gets her… she’s neurotic, anal retentive, bossy, and is often bouncing off the walls… but he...

Totally Digging it!
I am totally digging Battlestar Galactica. Just watched the first two episodes, which I guess was a miniseries, and now I am watching the first episode of the series.
Didn’t think I would like it, but I am! So many questions… so many people I want to smack…

V-Day is Coming Up!
Whatever you think of Valentine’s Day - it’s right around the corner. I enjoy helping the boys (though only Hayden still does this) make all their little cards for their classmates. I like doing that. Hayden will come home and share his take with me - though I limit myself to one piece of candy these days. That’s fun.
I have no real interest in going to a restaurant and...

Pizza, Ice Cream, and T-Ball
It isn’t often that we all go out to eat as a family. The older three are usually doing their own thing, so it’s often just Roy, Dean, Hayden, and I. Occasionally, I tell the boys we are going out together, and they all need to attend.
We went out last night to a local pizza place, and then to get some ice cream… EXHAUSTING! Seriously, exhausting. They argue, push, fuss at...

The Voice is back!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show… The Voice. American Idol, who? I love that this show is based on haha - their voice. The coaches don’t know who these people are. They don’t know what they look like. All they know is whether or not these people can sing.
I love that there isn’t an age limit! Hello! Did you see Kim Yarbrough? She is 50! Her skin… GORGEOUS! But...

YEAH!
It only took me an hour on the phone, but the rep from Carnival was very nice. We got our cruise booked! YEAH! August can’t come soon enough for me.
Going to leave from New Orleans this time, and we are all looking forward to seeing the city, even if only for a few days… can’t wait!

Corey's Tat
Someone asked where Corey got his tattoo, and I can’t figure out how to reply to a comment! I’ll get it one day!
Corey was actually thinking of getting it across his upper back, but for it to have any real impact, it would have to be fairly large. On the other hand, if he wanted a back piece one day, it could interfere with it.
Because he works, he wanted it somewhere that could...

Tattoos, and why I love 'em.
Corey just got his first tattoo. Well, he got it a few weeks ago, and my mom can’t believe we let him get one.
But I figure, how can I say anything! I have five! Sure, I am older. He is only 17 (almost 18), but he came to us with an idea, and I have to say I liked it. It meant something to him, and actually it is sort of an extension of one I want to get.
One of our favorite artists is...

Morton's Steakhouse... BAD! What would you have...
With five kids at home, I take date night seriously. When Roy and I plan to go out, I do my research - or ask Roy for help. The last restaurant we went to was Passionfish in Reston, and it was a total and complete homerun! EVERYTHING about the meal was wonderful - the food (of course!), the service, the decor, the ambiance - just a wonderful time.
So, we decided to go out this past Friday....

The Art of Marriage
I don’t have all the answers. Hell, one couple in our little town just celebrated their 70th anniversary and even they say they don’t have all the answers. But after almost 14 years together, I know this - My husband can’t read my mind.
In our 13 1/2 years together, I will say this - we have had more good times than bad. Even the ‘just ok’ times have been...

Happiness is...
Happiness is… seeing my little one on the bus smiling.
Hayden is like Roy, NOT a morning person. But this morning, he got up with a smile, ate all his breakfast, got dressed, and even danced with me in the living room.
When it was time to go, he put on his jacket (without being told!), got his backpack, and grabbed my dog for me while I put my shoes on.
Once outside, we joked around, and...

SyFy is Rockin' Lately
Last year we watched the first season of a show called Face Off. It’s basically a competition for FX artists. Each week they have a new challenge. Our favorite last year was creating a zombie that had to stand up to a very energetic dance routine. Since we all love horror movies, the kids, Roy, and I really enjoyed this competition last year. The new season started a few weeks ago. The...
