A Look Back at 2010
2010 is coming to an end. Roy was joking I need to remember that when I write checks. 2010 has been quite a year. Let’s take a look…
-January: Dean turned 2, and Joe turned 14. Corey got his permit, and I did our taxes for 2009. I also got my fuzzy baby - Shinobi.
-February: We got our tax return, and I needed a new washing machine, so I got every one up and dressed, and we...

Things I Miss
Yesterday’s post was a doozy! Roy joked that he didn’t even want to edit it (grammar/spelling) for me as it was so long. Today’s won’t be quite so wordy.
Dean is about to turn three. Every time he hits a “first,” I am reminded that he is my last baby. I won’t ever see a first step or hear a first word from one of my own children. So there are moments...

My 10th Anniversary Present
Roy didn’t buy me Shinobi on our anniversary, and I wouldn’t even say that Shinobi was necessarily my anniversary present, but that is what I say he is. Shinobi is my dog - a chubby, roly-poly, fawn pug.
I am not sure of the exact date, but I would guess sometime in 2000, Roy and I adopted a foxhound from the rescue company that used to set up shop in the local Petsmart. Whomever...

Happy Anniversary!
It’s been 11 years since I walked down the aisle. 11 years since my father took my hand and “gave me” to Roy. It’s been the best 11 years of my life!
Well, 12 1/2 years really, because the time before our marriage, our “courtship,” was pretty rockin’ too!
The first day we met, Roy told me I smelled good. I am sure I blushed and tried to brush...

Don't Forget to Dream
This will just be a short post, but I wanted to get this out there before I forget!
I was talking to my step-daughter Emily recently, and we were talking about taking chances. She told me something, though perhaps the details aren’t important, that disappointed me. I called her over to me in the kitchen and said this:
“I’m going to be completely honest with you. What you...

Merry Christmas.
We woke up early, opened gifts (lots of them), served breakfast, and sent the kids off to a matinee movie while Roy and I get dinner ready for this evening. Wishing you all happy holidays!

Christmas 1999 - Marriage and Move
What a month December 1999 was! On December 3 we closed on our first home! We got a great deal on a little fixer upper, and what a journey that was! We were lucky that Roy’s parents let us stay with them, so we were able to take our time painting and dealing with other preparations. I was so excited to pick out colors - a warm sunny yellow with green frogs stamped around the room for...

Christmas 1998 - Roy's Grandparents
Christmas of ‘99 was VERY eventful, but more on that tomorrow. Today, I am going to tell you about our first Christmas together, and how it shaped my love for Roy’s grandparents.
December 1998, Roy and I had been dating for about six months, and things had moved quickly. I just knew that he was the one for me, so I was thrilled that he seemed to feel as strongly as I did. Talking...

jenlyn00 asked: Wow do you really have 5 sons or are you counting your husband as one of your kids like most wives do lol? I’m pregnant with my first and I want a boy but I don’t know if I could handle that many kids of the same sex but you’re probably pretty lucky because I have found that girls are so much more difficult to deal with than boys.
Hi! Congratulations on your...

A few things...
It snowed here yesterday and the kids were off. They are also off today as the temperature is barely 25 degrees. Hayden had a great time yesterday sledding with his friends, and Corey took Dean out to play today for a bit, though the snow doesn’t seem to hold much interest for Dean.
Roy and I have been doing our Christmas shopping little by little since Black Friday. I am happy to say we...

Hayden's on a roll!
Not sure what is going on, but lately my little guy has been surprisingly witty.
As I have said before, I love music. I watch the special video countdowns on VH1 and Fuse (Because we all know that MTV rarely plays videos these days! Why is it called MUSIC television again?) and the other day Fuse was playing the Sexiest… Sexiest Pop stars, Sexiest Dance videos, etc. I flipped to that...

Love You, Mom
With five boys, I can’t tell you how many times a day I hear this. Ok, I can give you a rough estimate - maybe 15? Anyways, I am always surprised when I hear other women I talk to and know say their kids are “embarrassed” by them, they don’t tell them they love them anymore (the kids don’t tell their parents, not the other way around), etc…. and I admit, that...

Hayden's Funny!
Yesterday at Walmart I told Hayden to get some chips that he and his brothers all like. He came back with a rather large canister of “party mix.” (This canister is almost 2 pounds of party mix!) It has cheetos, pretzels, nacho chips, etc. in it.
He came home today and asked if he could have some.
I opened it and gave it back to him. Before I could say anything…
“I...

Joe and the Mac & Cheese
Joe is almost 15, and he doesn’t like to cook, and honestly, I’m ok with that. I enjoy cooking, Roy cooks occasionally, and so does Corey. If Joe can help out in other ways, I’m cool with that. Sure, a part of me worries that when he goes away to college, he will eat Ramen and microwaved burritos all the time, but I also know he is pretty smart, and he can figure it out if he...

Bits and Pieces
Just a few random things that I thought were funny, nice, etc.
I was at Walmart yesterday with Hayden (6) and Dean (2). Dean was cranky, and Hayden was bouncing off the walls because he was so excited to go see my mom. Anyways, I’m running around the store trying to get what we need and just get up to the register. We finally get in line, and Hayden was so sweet. He helped me put things...

Blended Families
I will be honest here, I have no advice for step-parents. In fact, I got the best advice on being a stepmother from my husband… Be patient.
I’ll talk about Roy and the boys first though. Corey and Joe came to live with Roy and I shortly before we were married. Corey was five and just starting kindergarten, and Joe was three. Before I go any further, let me say this about divorce:...

Tumblr was down...
…for what was it? Two days! Though I have to say that suited me just fine. I was sick yesterday, the ugly kind of sick. Not just a headache and let me retire to my room and sleep kind of thing… nope this was UGLY! And of course, it was the morning that Roy was flying out of town for a week.
Corey was home, which worked out well because Joe got sick about 2pm and the nurse called...

Age Differences
More than one person has expressed surprise at the large age difference between my boys - our oldest is 16 and our youngest is almost three (already?). And we have three boys between those two as well - almost 15, 11, and 6.
I started having my babies when I was very young. I was only 20 when Corey was born, so even though there is almost 14 years between Corey and Dean, when I had Dean, I...

All I Want for Christmas Is...
…Everything! Nothing!
What would you like for Christmas?
This is a familiar question in our house this time of year. With five boys and a girl, we ask them this, grandparents ask us (meaning Roy and I) this, aunts, etc. And with five boys and a girl we have a random assortment of answers:
-Corey likes what he likes, but he isn’t very specific. He might want a new hoodie. Ok,...
